Here are a few reminders for this week:
- Lunch forms are due Wednesday.
- Report cards will go home Monday. Please review, sign, and return.
- Our Fall Festival will be this Friday. The students are allowed to wear their Halloween costumes on this day.
Here is a peek of what we will be doing this week:
Language Arts: We have learned about nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns. This week, we will begin learning about adverbs through children books and games. We will also begin learning how to write better sentences.
Spelling Words: Halloween, costume, witch, think, white, branch, charm, chair, lunch, party
Challenge Words: secretary and legislature (choose one)
Reading: This week, we will begin reading "The Election-Day Disaster" by Ron Roy. The book is on a 3.1 reading level. I will be sending home comprehension questions to help make sure the students are understanding what they are reading. During Reading, we will also begin a research project. The students will choose a president from the past or future and will go through the research process to find information about their president. We will be working on the project primarily in class, however, there will be a couple of nights where you will need to help your child use the internet to find information. All of their research will go into a "All You Need to Know about our Presidents" booklet. I will be providing a rubric that will outline all the information the students will be required to find.
Math: Money, Money, Money!!! Yes, we will be discovering the value of coins and how to count them! Counting money is a hard skill for many students to pick up. One way you can help with this skill is to allow them to "pay" for things at home. For example, give them a cup of coins. When they want a piece of candy, or want to play on their Ipad, make them pay for it using their coins. The most important part of this skill is first being able to identify the coins and understand their values.
I look forward to a GREAT week of learning!
