It has been a whirlwind of a week! My favorite activity was when the students and I sat in a circle and told the person to the right and a person to the left a positive thing about them. Each time it was a students turn to receive a positive word, they sat up straight and their eyes just beamed in anticipation of what their peer had to say about them. I LOVE the hearts of my students. A BIG shout out to Stephanie Grady for organizing our Valentine's Day party. The students really enjoyed playing bingo and making cookies.
Here are a few reminders for the week:
- March lunch menus are due Wednesday.
- Don't forget about jersey Monday.
- Bring your Purposeful Pony piggy banks so we can add your change to the schools collection.
- Look at the newsletter for apps that need to be downloaded to your child's Ipad.
- Add spelling words to word wizard.
Here is a sneak peek at what we will be learning this week:
Language Arts: This week, we will be taking a spin on our story writing. The students will begin brainstorming stories that will eventually come to life. Within the story writing, they will be required to identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives. They will also be required to edit their peers stories. As editors, they will be looking for correct use of capitalization and punctuation, use of adjectives, and identifying if their peer used fragment and run-on sentences. I know this seems like a lot of skills, however, these are skills we work on everyday. My favorite part about this activity is that the students will create real images of their scene and characters.
Spelling: robot, internet, computer, battery, company, rest, test, best, chest, west
Challenge Words: electricity, create, business, beautiful, fraction
Reading: The students are doing a great job reading known and unknown words. We will continue working on word and small passage comprehension. It is so important for them to not only recognize the word and its meaning but to also be able to apply the word in a written sentence.
Math: We will be wrapping up our Geometry topic this week. The students will be taking a formal assessment on all the Geometry skills we have covered. On Thursday, we will roll right into FRACTIONS!!! I am so excited about this topic! My plans to teach fractions include hershey bars and pizza!
