Week of February 25th

We have been working really hard this week.  The students have been rotating through centers in order to cover multiple skills at once.  In one of the centers I over heard a student make the following comment, "I am feeling happy today." The other students agreed and carried on with their work.  To many this comment would not mean anything but to a teacher it means everything.  My primary goal as a teacher is not only a students education but their safety.  Each day, my students remind me of why I teach.  Whether it is a random hug from Adayln, a toothless smile from Sam Grady, or the "Ooooo, I got it now" from Elias.  There is nothing like having a pure joy for what you do.

Here are a few reminders for the week:
-  Jersey Monday!
-  Unit Culmination is this Friday at 1:45.
-  Free Dress on Thursday for those who ordered script.
-  The students need to bring props for our performance.  The props can be hats, boas, goofy sunglasses, etc.  The prop needs to be easily removed.  Please bring these props on Monday.
-  Don't forget to send a picture of your child with their grandparent.

Here is a sneak peek of what we will be doing next week:

Language Arts:  This week, we will be exploring homophones and homonyms.  The students will also begin creating visual aids to represent a story they will write.  We will need shoeboxes for this activity the week of March 4th.

Spelling Words:  program, machine, video, half, whole, history, rain, mail, paint, paid, and March.

Challenge Words:  language, digital, connect, communicate, and information

Math:   We have begun learning about fractions!  I am wanting to do some hands on activities with the students that involve rainbow goldfish and Hershey bars.  If you are willing to donate a box of rainbow goldfish or 12 Hershey bars, please let me know by Monday.
