Week of September 23rd

The kiddos have had an amazing week of reading.  I conducted another ORF and many of the students jumped leaps and bounds.  Their eyes light up when they realize they have met or surpassed their goal.  I truly believe their competitive spirits encourages great success in the classroom.

Here are a few reminders for the week:
-  P.E. is on Monday.  Wear your jersey.
-  Free Dress on Friday for those who have ordered script this month.
-  I need a parent volunteer for Math centers on Thursday afternoon at 1:00.

Here is a sneak peek at our week:

Language Arts:  The kids are really starting to grasp how to write a complete sentence using nouns and verbs.  This week, they will work through centers to combine all the skills taught so far.  They will be going on a noun scavenger, create noun and verb people through poems, compete in a capitalization game, and demonstrating comprehension skills through a listening center.

Spelling:  Friday, bring, thing, sing, ring, home, next, want, Amazon, saw

Math:  We will be finishing up addition strategies this week.  On Thursday, I have several Math games planned to help reinforce the skills taught.  The kiddos will play a game of Roll and Cover, Addition with Playing Cards, Zap It!, and Bowling for Addition.  All of these games are hands on and I am in need of help!  Jennifer Harvey will be coming to help with Bowling for Addition.  I need one more person to help with Zap It!  Don't worry, I will give you instructions.

Science:  We will be wrapping up our animal unit this week.  The kiddos have been working really hard on their animal books.

I hope you all are enjoying your year in First grade.  Deleta and I say everyday how blessed we are to be able to invest and love on your kids.
