Week of September 9

The First grade class did a GREAT job in their first performance today!  They were also very respectful  and helpful during the Grandparents Day portion.  Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to make this day a success.  One of my favorite memories of this day was watching Katherine talking with her grandparents (with sunglasses on) and pointing to me with a huge smile.  I know the kiddos felt so loved and blessed to have their family at BDS.

Just a few reminders:
-  PE on Monday!
-  School pictures this Wednesday.  Please send form with money on Wednesday.  The students are to wear their uniforms.

Here is a sneak peek at our week:

Reading:  We will begin our new chapter book, Afternoon on the Amazon by Mary Pope Osborne. The book is on a 2.6 level.  I will be reading the book to the students in class.  The students will create a story map for the book and will learn the different parts of a story.  This week, we will be talking about the setting of the story.

Language Arts:  The students are working really hard on writing complete sentences.  This week, we will be identifying common and proper nouns and words that need to be capitalized.  I ha  The students will be using these new skills during several writing activities.

Spelling Words:  September, Wednesday, rain, pain, train, brain, what, which, these, those

Math:  This week, we will continue working on subtraction strategies.  The students are doing a great job writing their sentences!  A great way to help them practice their fact at home is by using the app Whacky Math.

Science:  We will continue talking about the different types of animals.  The student will be creating a booklet to describe the types of animals.  I am really excited about taking them on a "hunt" through the rainforest to find new species.

I hope you all have a wonderful week.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
