Week of September 2nd

Wow!  I cannot believe September is already here!  We are having such a great time in First grade learning objectives through song and games.  This week, we will end our unit on New York.  I am so excited to see where our travels take us next. :)

Here are a few reminders:
-  No school on Monday!
-  Grandparent's day is Friday.  Grandparents are invited to come to our 10:45 performance and lunch.
-  The second unit culmination will be at 1:45.
-  Please send a pair of sunglasses for your child on Tuesday.  They will need them for the performances.

Here is a sneak peek for next week:

Language Arts:  We will be wrapping up our chapter book, "Lily and Miss Liberty" by Carla Stevens.  The students will be writing and illustrating their favorite part of the story.  The students are really working hard on writing complete sentences, including capitalizing the first letter of the sentence and making sure it ends with a period.

Spelling:  Tuesday, true, clue blue, glue, tell, name, work, map, new

Math:  We have finished our chapter on addition strategies.  The students are truly excelling in Math.  This week, we will begin learning subtraction strategies.  The students will be practicing these strategies using story problems, connecting cubes, and dominoes.
