Week of January 13th

First Grade had a wonderful week back to school!  All of the kids worked really hard.  Because of their good behavior, I will be treating them to brownies and milk for Mondays snack.

Here are a few reminders for the week:
-  Wear P.E. attire on Monday.
-  Return library books by Thursday.
-  If you have not signed and sent back report cards, please do so ASAP.

Here is a sneak peek at our week:

Math:  We will wrap up Chapter 8 this week with a formal assessment on Wednesday.  Please look for a review sheet that will go home on Tuesday.  Thursday we will begin learning how to identify two dimensional shapes.

Language Arts: We will be reading "Suki's Kimono" by Chieri  Uegaki. The writing activity for this week will be an opinion piece.  The students will be writing an opinion piece based on their analysis of the characters in the story.  They will also be designing and creating their very own Kimono dolls.  In grammar, we will continue learning about singular and plural nouns and verbs.  The students really caught on the the meaning of singular and plural, which is why they each will be receiving brownies instead of a brownie. :)

Spelling:  circle, square, dance, follow, came, show, step, play, noodle, watch.

Science:  This week, we will begin learning about the three layers of the Earth and the different types of Earth materials.  I have several hands-on projects planned that will help the kiddos differentiate between rocks, minerals, soils, water, and atmospheric gases.
