Here are a few reminders for the week:
- Unit Culmination is this Friday. Kindergarten and first grade students need to wear jeans and a white t-shirt.
- Box Tops are due Monday!
- We know that some of you have paid for lunch on days that we plan school events. If your child was scheduled on the day of a field trip, swim meet, etc.... please deduct that amount from your lunch check in November. If you would write a small note at the bottom of the November lunch count to let us know you are deducting for missed days that would be great!
- Our next unit books are in, if you have not already done so, please send in $4 to help cover these books.
- We are taking a field trip to Mitchell Farms on Monday, October 8th. Please return forms as soon as possible.
- JayWalkers will be this Friday at Cooperstown. This is an adult event and is a lot of fun! Please come out and show your support for the school.
- Scholastic orders are due this Thursday.

Here is a peek of next week activities:
Language Arts: The students have been hard at work identifying nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adjectives. This week, they will be put to the challenge to identify and use each of these types of words through several different activities. Our goal is to be able to write good statement sentences that reflect what we are learning in class.
Reading: We have finished our chapter book!! The students were so excited and felt so good about completing this fifth grade level book! This week in Reading, the students will be working on their comprehension skills, understanding vocabulary words through context clues, and freshening up on some phonics. One of our centers will require clay. If you are able to send clay to school for this activity, please let me know.
Spelling Words: October, because, curve, turn, burn, curl, purse, eleven, twelve, thirteen
Challenge Words: infrastructure, system, and population (only choose one word)
Math: This week in Math, we will begin learning about the following skills: place value, writing number words, and comparing numbers. The students will be introduced to a friendly character that will help them through this process.
Science: We are a little behind on science, so we will continue learning about forces this week.
Conceptual: The students will be given a formal assessment on all the information we have learned throughout this unit. I will send home a study guide for this test on Monday. The assessment will be Thursday.
