Week of September 24th

Our field trip to the Children's Museum was a BLAST!  I am so proud of how interactive the students were during our scavenger hunt and through out the rest of the museum.  We have some geniuses on our hands!

Here are a few reminders for the week:

-  Box tops are due October 1st!  Please send in your box tops so that we can win a party!
-  Don't forget Jersey Monday!
-  Please send $4 by Friday, September 28th to help cover the cost of the next unit book.
-  This is the last week to order bricks for the patio.
-  On Friday, we will have a water day.  Please make sure to pack extra play clothes or swim clothes and a towel.

Here is what we will be doing this week:

Reading:  We will finish reading our chapter book, "The Family Under the Bridge" on Thursday.  The students will take a comprehension test on chapters six through nine on Friday.  Please make sure you are reading each night!  The students are doing really well on their sight words and on their oral reading fluency assessments.  I will send home a report on these this Friday.
Language Arts:  We will wrap up our lesson on Adjectives on Monday and will begin learning action words!  We are ALWAY doing and using action words.  Point these words out in your everyday conversations with your child.  This week, the students will be participating in many hands-on verb activities through centers.  I look forward to their creative writing!

Spelling Words:  Saturday, number, write, time, moon, spoon, tooth, broom, come, shelter

Challenge Words:  interstate, highway (only choose one)

Math:  We will continue our lesson on subtraction strategies this week.  I will be introducing the students to two-question story problems on Tuesday.  I am expecting this skill to be difficult for them because they are always in a rush to complete assignments.  They will have to slow down and read each sentence / question very carefully in order to master this skill.  They will have a test on Thursday.

Science:  On Monday, we will begin learning about force using a rope bridge that Stephanie and Jim Grady have made for us outside.  Thank you Grady family for your help!  The students will be participating in hands-on activities to discover the true meaning of force, push, and pull.  They enjoy our "science labs" and I cannot wait to hear their reactions through our activities this week.
