Week of November 26th

I wanted to go ahead a post for next week.  I know I have very eager learners, however, please do not let them practice their spelling words over the holiday.  I want them to come refreshed and well rested!

Here are a few reminders:
-  Don't forget to wear your jersey Monday.
-  Conceptual supplies listed on the previous blog are needed by November 30th.
-  We will have an Author Study party on November 30th.  Terri Parker and Stephanie Grady is in charge of helping us make this day special.
-  Each student will need a white t-shirt on Monday, November 26th.  We will be decorating the shirts for them to wear on Friday, November 30th.
- Girls, remember to turn in $6 for your Christmas sash.
-  If you are looking for paint cans or coffee cans for the kilts we are making, Stephanie Grady has found a store who can order them.  If you want for us to order your childs' paint cans, send $3 on Monday, November 26th.

Here is a look at the week:

Reading:  This week, we will begin our author study on Robert Munsch.  The students will rotate through literature stations where they will be required to read and complete a Robert Munsch activity.  The stations will challenge the students in reading, comprehension, and writing.

Language Arts:  We will be continuing our focus on friendly letters.  The students will meet a Robert Munsch character and will be required to go through a writing process to invite this character to our school.  We will also begin writing a letter to Robert Munsch!  Please encourage your child to write letters to family member or friends who may live far away.

Spelling Words:  circle, different, move, bump, stump, clump, stamp, clamp, camp, question

Challenge Words:  literature, guess

Math:  We have conquered addition strategies and now we will move on to learning about subtraction strategies.  The students are really soaking up the math skills quickly.  I will be switching their mad minutes to subtraction this week!  I great way to practice for their mad minute is to use the "Whacky Math" app on their I pad.

Science:  This week, we will begin exploring the basic needs of animals.  The students will identify these needs and will participate in an outdoor activity to demonstrate what may happen to animals who are unable to meet their needs.

Please call or text if you have any questions!
