Week of January 28th

I cannot believe we are already at the end of our unit!  The year is flying by soooo fast!!  I look forward to seeing each of you at our performance on Friday.

Here are a few reminders for the week:
-  Don't forget about Jersey Monday!
-  Free Dress on Thursday if you ordered Script for January.
-  Don't forget to chart the weather for Friday and return on Monday!
-  Unit Culmination will be this Friday!

Here is a sneak peek at our week:

Spelling Words:  winter, fairy, night, morning, magic, birth, third, thirst, shirt, and dirt

Challenge Words:  magician, invitation, remember, gigantic, excalibur

Language Arts:  This week, we will wrap up helping verbs and roll right into subject-verb agreement. The students will apply these skills in their sentence writing activities.  Our goal is to see improvement in their "free writing."

Reading:  We have finished our chapter book, Summer of the Sea Serpent by Mary Pope Osborne.  The book was AWESOME!  On Monday, we will review the events in the story through a sequencing game and will then take a comprehension test.  The kids are doing a great job on their take home books!

Math:  This week, the students will be finishing up using subtraction and addition when problem solving with money.  They will have an assessment on this skill on Wednesday.  On Thursday, we will begin GEOMETRY!  I love this topic in math!!

Science:  The students will continue their studies in weather.  I am looking forward to integrating literature within our science lessons.  We will also be creating weather instruments that we will use to record our information.
