The First grade travelers had a great time building skyscrapers, becoming a New York taxi driver, and being entertained by our guest author Kathy Ellzey. If you did not purchase her book, Darby Does the Met, and are interested in doing so, please let me know. I hope everyone has a wonderful last week of August!
Here are a few reminders:
- Wear BDS active wear on Monday for PE.

- Don't forget to order script! Friday is FREE DRESS DAY for those who order this month!
Here is a sneak peek at our week:
Signed Papers: I will be sending home signed papers on Monday. Please read the letter attached to the papers. It will explain BDS new grading scale for K-2. Also, please use your child's assessments as a way to encourage and reward their hard work. They are truly working hard!
Apps: I have listed several apps on the App page. Please make sure you download these apps to your child's I pad. We will be using Word Wizard, Whacky Math, AR, and Star Reader this week.
Sight Words: The kiddos did a GREAT job with their sight words this week! I will send home new words on Monday. If your child masters their words before Thursday, please let me know and I will assess them early. I want to move as quickly as your individual child will allow.
Language Arts: This week, we will begin to learning how to correctly write a sentence. The students will be learning about the blueprints of a sentence and creating a sentence buddy as a reminder. I also have many activities planned where the kids will interact with their sight words and spelling words. We will continue reading our chapter book, Lilly and Miss Liberty by Carla Stevens. The students have really gotten into the story by creating their own ways of raising money for Miss Liberty's pedestal.
Spelling Words: August, Monday, sick, kick, brick, stick, have, each, not, but
Math: The kids have really been breezing through our first chapter of My Math. We will complete a formal assessment on Friday. Be looking for a practice test Thursday night.
Social Science: A special visitor from USM will be coming on Monday to share and show a few animals. This visit, will jump start are unit on animals. We will be creating animal books where they students will discover basic needs of animals and whether the animal is a herbivore, omnivore, and carnivore. I am really looking forward to our animal conversations. :)
