Week of September 30th

A BIG thank you to Jennifer Harvey and Sonya Woodard for helping with our Math centers this past week.  The kids had a great time reviewing addition skills through games.  I could not have done it without you.  I really try hard to spend one-on-one with each child in every major subject area.  If you would be willing to come and help run a center, please let me know.  The more hands and eyes I have available, the more I can do one-on-one with your kiddos.

Here are a few reminders for the week:
-  P.E. Monday!
-  Field trip is this Friday.  Students may wear BDS P.E. attire and tennis shoes.
-  Please check your email for our new chapter book.  I will be asking for you to purchase it either on the kids Ipads or as a hard copy.

Here is a sneak peek for the week:

Language Arts:  The kids have done really well identify and using nouns and verbs in sentences.  This week, we will begin learning about pronouns.  We will also begin working on the writing process.  The students will be required to write a short passage about their favorite part of the book.  During the writing process, I will be looking to see if the students are able to write complete sentences and if they are able to spell common first grade words.

Spelling Words:  Saturday, about, shout, cloud, loud, round, found, could, would, should

Math:  We will begin chapter 4, subtraction strategies this week.  I am anticipating on moving very quickly through this chapter.  The students have retained a lot of skills from last year and I am eager to begin giving them a little bit more challenging lessons.  Please continue to work on math facts.

Science:  We have finished up our animal unit and will begin learning about the human body.  The students will be creating the brain and participating in a game to emphasize the brain and nervous system.
