Week of November 11th

The First Grade Travelers were sensational today!  I hope everyone enjoyed their performance.  This coming week I have planned many centers that I will need parent volunteers for.  I am hoping to have one parent for each day of centers so that I can pull kids to do one-on-one assessments.  I will list, at the bottom, the times I am needing help.  Please let me know if you will be available to help.

Volunteer Times:
Monday -  8:10 - 9:00 and 10:30 - 11:30
Tuesday - 10:30 - 11:30
Wednesday - 10:30 - 11:30
Thursday - 11:05 - 12:00

Here are a few reminders:
-  P.E. is Monday.  Make sure to wear BDS athletic outfits.
-  Student Council Forms are due Tuesday.
-  Please make sure your child has IXL on their Ipad.
-  Free Dress is this Friday.  Make sure to order Script so your child can participate.
-  Make sure to return library books on Thursday.

Books for Next Unit:  I will be assigning chapter books based on individual abilities.  The kids will be responsible for reading a chapter a night at home.  In class, they will be given assignments focusing on comprehension, writing, predictions, and more using their books.

Spelling Words:  Thanksgiving, happy, pumpkin, holiday, dinner, gobble, short, born, story, corn

Language Arts:  We will continue identifying and using adjectives through several activities this week.  In centers the students will play a fun game called "Turkey Splat" were they have to identify and use nouns, verbs, and adjectives.  They will also participate in a parts of speech draw where they will draw random nouns, verbs, and adjectives and will be required to use them in a sentence.  Our goal is to become great writers!

Math:  We will wrap up our chapter on place value Monday through centers.  I will be sending home a review sheet Monday night.  The students will be given a formal assessment on place value Tuesday.  Wednesday, we will begin learning how to add two-digit numbers.  I think the kids are going to be so excited for this new challenge.

THANK YOU to all those who brought goodies for our treasure box!  It is literally overflowing and serves as eye candy for the kids.
