Week of March 23rd

We have had a wonderful week in First grade.  It was so good to be back in a regular schedule!  I LOVED hearing the stories of what the kids did over Spring break and seeing how much they have grown.

Here are a few reminders for this week:
-  P.E. is on Monday!  Make sure to wear your BDS athletic wear.
-  We have a field trip this Wednesday to the Global Wildlife Foundation.  Please make sure to arrive no later than 10:45.
-  Make sure to return all library books on Thursday.

Reading:  The kids were so anxious to finish our Geronimo Stilton book that I gave in and we finished reading it on Friday.  I absolutely LOVE their eagerness to read!  We will begin our new book on Egypt this Thursday.

Language Arts / Writing:  We have hit the road writing!  I have challenged the students to begin applying the skills they have learned this year.  They are using punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and many other skills to write AWESOME pieces.  Please make sure to check out their signed papers where you will see a glimpse of their hard work.  This week, I will continue challenging them to write more opinion pieces.  We are going to focus on adding adverbs and adjectives into our simple sentences.

The students will have another sentence dictation test this Friday.

Math:  We have finished our lesson on graphs and probability.  On Monday, we will begin learning how to measure in capacity and weight.  Please make sure to check your childs' Math homework each night.  It is a great way to see what they are retaining from the classroom.
