Week of May 12th

Whew!  The First grade travelers marched right through our SAT tests this week.  I am so proud of all their hard work.  Thank you again to Katie Thrash, Chris Inman, and Kristi Simmons for providing jolly ranchers, mints, and peppermints.  I can not tell you how helpful the candy was in keeping everyone focused and on task.

Here are a few reminder for the week:
-  Wear P.E. attire on Monday.
-  Please return any library books as soon as possible.
-  Luau Friday, see Kelly's newsletter for more details.
-  Practice lines for the final performance.

Reading:  This week, we will continue exploring the Redwoods in Southern California.  Because of testing last week, we were unable to create our own Redwoods.  So, we will begin that process this week.  Thank you Shoub Sumrall and Arlean Sackler for helping out with the supplies for this project.  We will also begin reading Hawaiian fables and will begin writing our own fables.

Language Arts:  The First graders began writing a book about their "Horrible, Terrible, Not So Good, Very Bad Day" in class last week.  We will continue writing, editing, and illustrating their stories this week.

Math:  We will continue working on adding and subtracting with three digit numbers this week.  I have planned several fun activities to help the kiddos understand regrouping.

Unit Performance:  For the final performance, the First grade travelers will be entertaining everyone with a game of Family Feud.  The game will focus on South America.  I sent the script out last week.  Please check your child's folder for a hard copy of this skit.  I am looking for a buzzer for the performance.  Please let me know if you have one we could borrow for the program.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!!
